Claire Melamed from ODI starts by welcoming us all to the beautiful Cartagena. She notes that they hadn't expected these numbers.
Setting the scene, she noted:
"Data is the raw material that governments can turn into decisions!"
But the data we have just aren't good enough. For example, she noted that in some cases the maternal mortality rate might be twice as high as estimates.
Poor data is leading to waste and slow progress in development, she notes. This means we have a political opportunity as part of the post 2015 agenda.
